1. General
Our English team is dedicated to creative and insightful teaching practices that not only help the school achieve its academic goals, but also inspire students to surpass expectations and pursue excellence.
FAGPS encourages students to prepare before lessons and participate in a variety of interactive learning activities by contributing their learning outcomes actively. We design lessons that provide immediate individual feedback and cater for learner diversity which allow teachers to support students promptly and accordingly.
One of our school’s feature of the curriculum is encouraging students to learn beyond the classroom, thus nurturing curiosity and a genuine love for knowledge. To prepare students for the modern world, each student engages in at least 100 IT-supported learning sessions every year so as to boost students’ confidence in using technology and prepare them for the challenges ahead.
Together, these strategies foster a classroom culture that cultivates creativity, critical thinking and collaboration, where students not only excel academically but also strengthen their social and interpersonal skills.
2. School-based Curriculum
As caring and dedicated teachers, we develop our school-based curriculum tailored to the needs of our students in accordance with the EDB’s guidelines.
Reading Curriculum
Reading is the foundation of all learning. Strong readers always enjoy learning more and achieve better in academics. Recognising the importance of reading, we have designed a school-based reading programme from P.1–P.6. This programme provides diverse text types and learning materials, from big books that promote early enjoyment of reading, to phonics instruction that equips learners with strategies for decoding new words, to well-known literary works that sustain interest.
Writing Curriculum
Our writing programme is built on the 3E principle: Enable, Encourage, Establish. Using the five stages of the writing process, students explore and construct ideas together and refine their work under teachers’ guidance. This approach enhances the quality of their writing and their confidence.
Speaking and Phonics Curriculum
We place strong emphasis on developing oral communication skills. Lessons include picture description, reading-aloud tasks, presentations and daily conversations. In our phonics curriculum, students acquire skills in blending sounds, strengthening their reading fluency and confidence in speaking.
3. NET Scheme
Having two Native English Teachers (NETs) at our school, we give pupils opportunities to interact with native speakers in an English-rich environment. This exposure boosts their confidence and fluency in using English.
The English learning environment is further enhanced through exposure to the language, activities, displays and motivational resources. These elements altogether nurture a positive attitude towards English in students and help them grow into happy and confident users of English.
4. Catering for Learners of Different Abilities
FAGPS recognises the different paces of learning in our students so we provide remedial lessons across levels, allowing teachers to further assist their studies. Higher-ability learners are challenged with enrichment activities under the streaming policy, while lower-ability learners receive extra guidance. We believe every student can succeed when supported according to their individual learning needs.
